Product Description
Factor 55 FlatLink E (Expert)
The FlatLink E (Expert) is a variation of our popular foldable standard FlatLink winch shackle mount. The FlatLink E provides a means to eliminate the conventional winch hook and replace it with a safer and more secure screw pin shackle resulting in a CLOSED SYSTEM WINCHING operation. The large pear shaped shackle mounting hole allows for attachment to either the pin or bow end of common screw pin shackles, as well as common OEM recovery points. This makes the new FlatLink E more versatile than the current FlatLink design, but it also adds the possibility of a dangerous shackle side loading condition (See Picture), especially during momentary slack conditions. A shackle side loading condition is not possible with our standard FlatLink shackle mount due to the shackle pin mounting constraint. For the recreational off roader we highly recommend the safer standard FlatLink product, not the FlatLink E. This way the winch operator does not have to monitor whether the shackle may have shifted and rotated in the recovery tackle. The FlatLink E is only available in the Military Specification Anodizing (Mil-A-8625 F Type III) hard anodized gray finish.
Conventional winch hooks can cut and fray recovery straps and often allow strap ends to escape during momentary slack cycles of a typical winching recovery. Screw pin shackles do not allow strap loops to escape due to their secure screw pin attachment. The FlatLink E does not require splicing and is compatible with steel cables or synthetic ropes up to 3/8 inches in diameter. The cable eye is retained in the FlatLink E by a 5/8 inch diameter 6Al4V Titanium double shear pin and internal snap ring. Installation takes only minutes. The EPDM Rubber Guards protect alloy fairleads and are securely attached to the FlatLink E with 4 barbed tips each. The FlatLink E stows neatly against either roller or Hawse type fairleads and is designed to be used with common 3/4 inch shackles.

Nothing like hanging some bling from a rope on the front of your Jeep!
Lets be honest... I need this about as much as I need my winch. I know, a bold statement to start a review so lets take a stroll back in time together and maybe my opening statement will make more sense. I'll start my story from the beginning. There once was a time that my Jeep Wrangler JK was ....... STOCK. Yes, I know, I know, but that was a long, long, time ago. So back then all those years ago (like 1 and a half) there was a couple of situations when my stock Jeep might have gotten stuck (like I said, stock) and I was forced to pull cable to get myself out of a bind. People pointed and laughed at me, and to tell you it hurt my feelings a little would be a huge understatement. All these guys around with their 35" tires and light bars just laughing out loud, girls holding out their hand in front of their foreheads with their fingers in the shape of an "L" (BTW that "L" doesn't stand for "love"), My girlfriend trying to hide her head from embarrassment and little kids asking their parents what happened to my Jeep and why did I have a rope in front of it. They never saw a Jeep being winched before and it was Mine. I felt hopeless and lost. If in your lifetime you have never hit bottom then you can't even begin to comprehend where I was emotionally at that moment. But then a fellow Jeeper who truly understands the meaning of the Jeep wave stepped through the dark shadows into my life. Like an angel singing down from the heavens, surrounded in light he reached out to me and raised me up. I think he said something like "You stuck?" but I knew he meant more, so much more. He took the winch hook from my hand and properly using a tree saver strap and snatch block he hooked me up to a solid oak tree. Turned back towards me and, as I stood in awe, draped a jacket over my winch cable for safety. I don't remember much of the next few minutes or at least I don't trust my memory of it because I don't think it's possible that my Jeep floated 2 feet above the mud as I hit the button to winch in, but maybe it did. When I got my Jeep onto solid footing the man looked at me and said the following, and I quote "He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand." then he turned and walked away. As he disappeared back into the shadows just as eerily as he appeared he said 4 more words to me that to this day ring through my thoughts. He said in a voice so strong that it felt like we shared a telepathic link. " Go to Offroad Elements" and then disappeared into the shadows. I sat there for a minute absorbing what had just taken place then opened the door and climbed back into the Jeep. I looked up at my girlfriend and said "Wow, That man sure was helpful." She looked up at me from her phone and just replied " What man?" I just put it in gear and drove off down the trail and have never told that story to anyone until this very review. Why did I choose to share it now? Because I went to Offroad Elements and through Eric's and Gill's great advice and prices was able to built my Jeep up to the unstoppable beast it is now! Now I see those same Jeeps on the trail with their 35" tires and just laugh out loud as I crawl on by with my 37s. I see their girlfriends whispering "call me!" behind their boyfriends backs and the little kids asking their parents why their tires are so small and mine are soooooo big. My girlfriend no longer hides her head in shame and Facebooks my Jeep pictures telling everyone it's hers! I drive by that same spot barely even noticing the mud that swallowed me up that day looking for the mysterious man that guided me to Offroad Elements but not even a tire print has ever shown up again. So you ask yourself then, after all this why did I open up this review stating that I don't really need this Factor 55 Expert Flatlink. Because Offroad Elements that's why.. Friggain Offroad Elements! If you just read through all that God Bless You! Hahahaha I owe you this... The flat link is awesome. Really a nice part that looks great as well as functions awesome. I installed it with a Factor 55 fairlead and Synthetic rope on my winch. It's about 40 lbs lighter and way easier to deal with as your trying to drag it out of your winch. Highly recommend purchasing one and since you are here right now reading thins why don't you purchase it from Offroad Elements?
